Kinky Clothing Care – PVC & Vinyl

Picked up a Spanking Skirt and not sure how to take care of it? Does your Strapping Studded Thong need a good wash? You can’t just pop these into your washing machine and hope for the best. PVC and vinyl materials in fetish wear and lingerie are becoming more and more popular, but do you know how to take care of them? Before spending serious money on a super sexy vinyl dress, be sure you’re ready to care for it the right way.

First thing to keep in mind is that you don’t need to wash PVC and vinyl clothing every time you wear them. Unless they are actually dirty, a simple wipe down on the outside with a damp cloth and a spray of an odor eliminating spray on the inside will do the trick. Leaving them to ‘air out’ in the open also helps get rid of any musty smells you may have picked up from bars or clubs.

For those times when a serious washing is needed, it’s time to fill up the sink. You’ll need to use lukewarm water and liquid detergent. If you only have the powdered kind laying around the house, dissolve it completely in a separate bowl of water before pouring it into your sink. Sometimes undissolved soap crystals can embed themselves into the fabric, leaving bright white spots on the surface. Hand wash as normal and rinse through with cold water until all the soap and dirty water is gone.Kinky Clothing Care - PVC & Vinyl

Drying is also not your standard ‘throw it in the dryer’ type of laundry care. You’ll need to hang your garment to dry – first inside out until the inner layer of fabric has dried. Then right side in to allow the vinyl outer layer to dry out. Don’t put your PVC or vinyl clothing near any heat source. Melting vinyl lets off noxious chemicals that can seriously damage the human body, and it’s also not too great for the garment itself!

You should also keep the storage of your PVC and vinyl pieces in mind as well. First, you want to avoid multiple pieces touching each other. Storing them in a garment bag is a good idea for hanging clothes. If your items are smaller, be sure that there’s a secondary fabric between each pair of vinyl underwear, for instance. We know kinksters who use tissue paper to separate their items, but even just other pieces of clothing will do.

Want to bring back the shine to your vinyl clothing? Sure, you can go out and get one of those specialized formulas just for PVC and vinyl clothes. Or, you could go to your local auto supply store and pick up some silicone spray (think ‘Armor All’ or ‘Flash Dash’) and save yourself more than few pennies!
