No Fap = No Masturbation

I just finished my first Reddit AMA session (that’s “Ask Me Anything” to you non-acronym folks out there). During the course of a session, I actually got a question that I needed to look up. Now in the realm of sexuality this doesn’t happen often for me, so I got a little education myself and now I’m passing it on to you. The question was, “How do you feel about the ethos behind r/nofap?” You can read my full, although abbreviated answer here: http://www.reddit.com/comments/1zg9sg/live_qa_here_today_with_dr_kat_staff_sexologist/

R/No Fap is a Reddit board that discusses the movement of people who choose not to masturbate. This board has grown into quite a community with it’s own ideology. The term No Fap came out of an internet comic that used the term “fap” as the sound of masturbation. Believe it or not, there are now over 80k members of this community. No FapThere are many reasons these community members have sought out No Fap. It runs the gamut from sighting the benefits of not self-pleasuring (higher self esteem, mental acuity and arousal; to believing it leads to a healthier lifestyle and better relationships over all). It is also a place where people can recover from “porn induced sexual dysfunction”. Some people do admit they just want to see if they can go without as a way to test their self-control. The board serves as way to track these benefits as well as becoming a place where people can discuss nifty ways to avoid masturbating.  You too can become a fapstronaut just by hopping on the board or going to www.NoFap.org. Go on. Give it a shot. Or don’t. I guess that’s the whole point.
